So let's dive in, gentlemen.

Speaker 1:

Discipline is the silent force behind every great achievement. It's the foundation for everything we want in life, whether it's to be stronger, to lead better or to lead with purpose. Today, we're diving into what it means to embrace discipline as a way of life. I'll share insights from my own story, some powerful lessons from history and, most importantly, give you actionable steps to build discipline, starting right now. But before we begin, I want you to reflect for a moment. Ask yourself where in my life am I struggling to show up consistently? Maybe it's skipping workouts, maybe it's feeling unfocused at work or breaking promises to myself. Keep that in mind, because at the end of this episode, you'll have a clear plan to change that. That in mind because at the end of this episode you'll have a clear plan to change that Now I've faced many moments where discipline wasn't just a tool, but it was the one thing keeping me moving forward.

Speaker 1:

One of my biggest challenges, that was transitioning from the SEAL teams to civilian life and then deciding to play college football at 33 years old. Okay, so, at five, six, 185 pounds, I wasn't your prototypical recruit. Okay, my teammates were faster, they were younger, they had years of experience and I could have just quit Right, I could have just said that's not for me. But I decided that if I couldn't control my size or my age, I could control my work ethic. Okay, so prior to the season, you know, I worked out as hard as I could. Every morning I hit the gym earlier than anybody. Every practice, you know, I would study. I would you know, work harder in film study, I would you know, make sure I knew every play inside and out. And then, on the days when I felt out of place or defeated, I just reminded myself okay, discipline is about showing up even when nobody's watching. Okay, when I finally stepped onto the field, I wasn't just playing football, I was proving to myself that discipline has the power to turn obstacles into opportunities. Okay, so this is why discipline matters. All right, let me hit you with a quick stat People who consistently follow habits are 76 more likely to achieve their goals 76 more likely to achieve their goals. Okay, why? Because discipline compounds over time. It's like a snowball gaining momentum.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if you guys have seen the book Discipline is Destiny, but that's by Ryan Holiday. He says discipline isn't about deprivation, it's about freedom. So think about it. When you're disciplined, you're in control of your choices instead of letting life control you. And here's an example Theodore Roosevelt, one of America's most disciplined leaders, lived with what he called a strenuous life. You know, despite battling chronic illnesses, he pursued hard work, physical fitness and continuous self-improvement. He saw discipline not as a burden but as a path to greatness.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so think about it. Where in your life do you feel like a lack of discipline is holding you back? You know, write it down or just take a mental note right now. But there's three pillars to discipline, okay, and to embrace them. You've got to focus on number one setting clear goals. Clarity gives you discipline with purpose.

Speaker 1:

Okay, start small. Maybe it's committing to three workouts a week, or waking up 30 minutes earlier to plan your day. Number two is control your environment. If your environment is full of distractions, discipline will struggle. Put boundaries around your phone, clear clutter from your workspace and create a space where you can focus. And then, number three, lean into discomfort. Here's the hard truth. Growth lives outside your comfort zone. Whether it's a grueling workout or a tough conversation or pushing yourself in your career, discipline thrives in discomfort. The more you practice leaning in, the stronger you get. So what's one uncomfortable thing you can commit to today that will move you closer to your goal? So let's get practical. I want you to pause this episode right now and take five minutes to do three things Write down one small goal that you'll commit to this week, identify the one distraction you'll eliminate, starting today, and then choose one challenge that you'll lean into instead of avoiding Now if you're driving or on the move. Think about it now and revisit this exercise later.

Speaker 1:

But discipline is built on one decision at a time, and this is your first step Some daily practices for discipline you know. To make it stick. Here's some things you can do. Start your day with an affirmation right, say out loud I am disciplined and determined to achieve my goals, because words shape thoughts and thoughts shape your mindset. Okay, journal your wins and challenges. Write down what you've achieved and where you've struggled. Reflection is going to build self-awareness and then focus on consistency over intensity.

Speaker 1:

Discipline isn't about doing it all at once. It's about showing up every day. Remember small wins compound into big results. All right, one of the men in our community shared how he struggled with discipline around fitness. Okay, he started with, just you know, five minute workouts three times a week. All right, you know, you say going in for five minutes, but the next thing, you know, you're there for 30 minutes. All right, but that small step turns into a daily habit and then, six months later, he's stronger, he's more focused, has more energy for his kids.

Speaker 1:

And discipline is about being perfect. It's about progress. Now I'm going to leave you with this. Discipline is the silent force behind every great achievement. It's what keeps you moving forward when the results aren't immediate and nobody's cheering you on and you have every excuse to you know to quit. Remember this mantra Discipline equals freedom and freedom equals fulfillment. Ok, write it down, say it every morning Discipline equals freedom, freedom equals fulfillment and live it. Now, gentlemen, that's a wrap for today.
